THE VIRILITY SOLUTION: WHEN THE PILL IS A THREAT
For women who are drawn to men they feel they can rescue, the pill can be perceived as a danger to the relationship. These women believe that the men’s problem is the cement that keeps them together. In their private estimation, their men are “flawed,” and therefore worthy of deep pity and a lot of forbearance. What this serves is the women’s ego, since it makes them feel as if they are caretakers in the situation. More significantly, it also reassures them, making them secure in the belief that no man with ED will ever abandon them. After all, they rationalize, who else would want those “damaged” goods?
With their ingrained habits, women like these are generally unre-ceptive to their partners receiving successful treatment. They may suggest that the pills aren’t safe, or that they haven’t been proven absolutely effective. Under the guise of caring, they might undermine what could very well be the salvation of a partner’s life in order to ensure their own perceived sanctuary. In their eyes, a restored partner is a danger to the status quo. Conceivably, they could lose their power base, their status as saint, and, ultimately, be left alone permanently.
Sadly, they are short-changing themselves. Without looking at the dynamic between the two of them, including fears, hopes, and everything in between, there is little chance that their relationships can be salvaged—much less grow to their full potential.
