WHAT CAUSES HEART DISEASE?
Your heart is the hardest working organ in your body. This muscle must continually pump blood to every cell. If it stops for as little as 4 minutes death or permanent brain damage will result.
Heart disease accounts for about 1/3 of all adult deaths. Unfortunately many of these deaths are premature. And worse yet most of these premature deaths are preventable. You can greatly lower your risk of premature heart failure by following a few easy steps.
Most premature heart deaths are caused by coronary heart disease. This is a condition in which fatty deposits develop in the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscles. This leads to atherosclerosis (narrowing) and eventually can block off the arteries or cause a blood clot. This can result in many heart problems or sudden attacks.
Doctors have discovered an unusual pattern in worldwide heart disease. The more developed countries (U.S.A., Great Britain, Northern Europe, Australia,) have a much higher rate of heart disease than the less developed countries. There are some strong potential reasons for this higher rate in the more developed countries, including a diet high in saturated fats, a lifestyle with little exercise, overweight, and eating more refined food. Of course these reasons also suggest some solutions for lowering your risk of heart attacks.
Many studies have shown that several factors increase the risk of heart attack. You have control over most of those factors and to a large extent determine the amount of risk you take.
