PSYCHOSEXUAL SKILLS – INSTANCE

Mr I. was a 25-year-old ex-soldier who came complaining of impotence. He could no longer get a condom on and had finished with his girlfriend although he still cared a lot for her. He wanted to talk about his testosterone levels (normal) and not about the fact that he had one testicle. One had been removed at herniorrhaphy as the surgeon said it was out of place and a cancer risk. The doctor asked if he could examine him. The soldier became embarrassed, shifting from leg to leg with his arms crossed. He said that he hated undressing in front of people, but he would if it would help. He was an active body builder with a handsome physique and cheeky tattoos. Something did not fit and the doctor asked why he was unhappy with his body. He replied that he liked it, but that his first sexual partner had laughed at it when he tried to make love standing up, after a night out drinking, with another soldier watching. So examination revealed that it was not his testicle that was vulnerable, but his external masculine nakedness.
